Bachelor of Veterinary Science or B.V.Sc. is an undergraduate program in veterinary. Students who have passed 10+2 in the field of Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for this course. A person who is graduated in this course carry forwards the profession of a veterinarian.

Veterinary medicine is the branch of Science that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, disorder and injury in non-human animals. The duration of this course is minimum of 3 years and maximum of 5 years. The average fee in India could range anywhere from 7,000 to 22,000 INR depending upon institutes. A person could find employment in both government and private sectors. The demand of this course is very high and of varied diversities.

A bachelor of Veterinary Science can get employment in various government animal husbandry departments, poultry farms, dairy farms, Wildlife sanctuaries and zoological parks, private and government veterinary hospitals and clinics where one can earn from 5,000 to 50,000 on an average per month.

The duration of this course including Animal Husbandry is of 5 years (including internship) like in Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, Rajendra Agricultural University, Samastipur and of 3 years without AH as in Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, National Research Centre on Mithun, Dimapur, Bombay Veterinary Science College, Mumbai. Although it is suggested to go for both B.V.Sc. and AH as it widens up the level of a veterinarian in terms of getting better job opportunities and experience.

Eligibility Of the Bachelor of Veterinary Science [BVSc]:

The basic eligibility for this course is 10+2 with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% in aggregate from CBSE/ICSE/State Board or equivalent. Students who have appeared in 10+2 or any other intermediate level examination and are awaiting results can also apply for the program and can be admitted on a provisional basis. 

How to Get Admission in Bachelor of Veterinary Science [BVSc]:

Admission to most veterinary colleges is given on the basis of results obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the concerned universities. Veterinary Council of India conducts an ‘All India Pre Veterinary Test’ (AIPVT) for admission to first year of Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) & Animal Husbandry (AH) degree course for filling up seats of each veterinary college of all states including colleges like Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Bombay Veterinary Science College, Mumbai, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, BikanerThis Entrance exam is usually held in the month of May each year.
In 2017, the admission in BVSc courses were done on the basis of NEET 2017 Score. 
However, there are some state level entrance exams also, through which admissions are given in the colleges of that particular state like Kerala Engineering Agricultural and Medical Entrance Test that is for the colleges of Kerala.

Academic options after Bachelor of Veterinary Science:

After one is done with Bachelor’s in Veterinary Science, the person can look forward to Masters in Veterinary Science or MVSc, which is a 2 years course, to get a higher degree and deeper knowledge about veterinary concepts. There are around 50 colleges in India that offer MVSc.
