POST GRADUATE INDIRA GANDHI SCHOLARSHIP FOR SINGLE GIRL CHILD SCHEME

INTRODUCTION OF SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

It is observed that number of girls as against boys in certain states is declining which is a matter of great concern. The females are even forced to give birth to male child. In such circumstances education of women needs to be used and effective means for their empowerment and study will prepare them to have a control over their lives. The mindset which signify adverse the Female applicant could not keep pace with economic progress and literacy. The Govt. of India declared elementary education as a basic human right of every child. The Union Government of India has taken various steps to uplift the status of women by implementing various schemes including free education for girls. In order to achieve and promote girls study, University Grants Commission has introduced a Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with an aim to compensate direct costs of girl education to all levels especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their family.

Amount of Fellowship: @Rs.3100/-per month

MERIT SCHEME OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the proposed scheme are:

a) To justification Post Graduate study of single female student in Post Graduate courses only.

b) To approved the value of observance of small family norm.

FELLOWSHIP TARGET GROUP

Girl students who are admitted to various PG courses in the following Universities / Colleges and happen to be the only girl child in the family

Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under section 2(f) & and 12(B) of University Grants Commission Act.

Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC,

Universities/Institutions/College funded by Central/State Government.

2. Institutes of National Importance.

She barring having any brother or her student who are twin daughters/ fraternal daughter can also apply for marit under the aforesaid scheme. In a family if one son and one daughter is available then girl child will not be considered for scholarship under the scheme.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR PG FELLOWSHIP SCHEME 2018

b) Age limit: Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are eligible.

c) The scheme is applicable to such single girl child who has taken admission in regular, fulltime first year Master’s Degree course in any designated university or a post graduate college. This fellowship is available to Post Graduate-I year applicants only.

d) Admission to PG Course in Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme.

NATURE OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE UNDER THE SCHEME

Amount of fellowship: Rs.3.100/- p.m. for a period of two years only (10 months in the year) i.e. full duration of a PG course. No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR PG SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME 2018

1) The Students overfill the applicable conditions are necessary to apply online through www.ugc.ac.in/sgc against the advertisement to be announced by the UGC once in a year through advertisement in leading newspaper and Employment News after obtaining admission in first year Post Graduate course in a recognized University/Institution/College.

2) The results of selection will be declared on UGC website.

3) Awardees would be required to download their award letter from the online portal by logging in with the registration id and Date of birth in the event of their selection.

4) It is expected from the institutions where applicant has taken admission in the first year Post Graduate course, no tuition fees will be charged by the institute from Female students to pursue PG degree course in Universities/Colleges/Institutions

AADHAAR SEEDING

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India vide its letter D.O. No. 18- 7/2013-U1A Date-10/06/2016 has advised the University Grants Commission that from the financial year 2016-17 onwards the Aadhaar will be used as an identifier for disbursement of all Government subsidies/Scholarships/Fellowships which are to be disbursed directly into the beneficiarys account. Accordingly, Aadhaar will be used as an Identifier for release of grant under the scheme.

PROCEDURE FOR RELEASE OF GRANTS BY UGC

The fellowship amount shall be disbursed through UGC designated agency into the bank account of the awardee directly with effect from 1ST April of the selection year or the date of joining of the candidate in the first year of Post graduate course as certified by the host institution in the joining report, whichever is later. The list of designated branches of University Grants Commission identified agency is available on the UGC portal i.e. www.ugc.ac.in.

1) The awardee is required to approach the designated branch along with a Copy of the Award Letter and Joining Report with photograph, address and contact number in the prescribed proforma Annexure-1.

2) At the end of every 3-months the awardee will submission a Continuation Certificate in the prescribed proforma. Annexure-II. This will make the awardee eligible to draw the fellowship for the next three months.

3) After conclusion of 1 year of the allotment of merit, the concerned allotment will submission and present her Progress Report in the proforma prescribed by the University Grants Commission as given in Annexure III.

4) After conclusion of the course a copy of the degree allotment is necessary to be submitted to the UGC designated agency.

NOTE: The assumed Agency can verified the genuineness of records before disbursal of funds.

PROCEDURE FOR MONITORING

1) The progress of the candidate shall be monitored by the head of the department. The candidate is required to submit a yearly progress report duly signed by the Head of the Department and Registrar of the University or Head of the Institution or Principal of the College to the designated bank branch. The scholarship shall stop after the last academic year of the Post graduate programme

2) Any student who discontinues the studies without prior approval of the UGC will have to refund the whole amount through e-mode (RTGS/NEFT) directly to UGC account.

3) No enhancement is recognized beyond 2 years.

4) The applicant who is allotment Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship will not be debarred from accepting any other scholarships.

5) The student availing this scheme will submit a certificate/marksheet of completion of Post Graduate course dully signed by the head of the department.

CANCELLATION OF SCHOLARSHIP

University Grants Commission can terminate merit of any student in any of the following cases:

1) Misconduct of the awardees, if any, reported by the University/College/Institution.

2) Unsatisfactory progress report i.e. if the candidate scores less than 55% marks in the first year of Masters Programme (50% in case of Physically Challenged awardee).

3) Applicant presence found unsuitable at a later date shall face the penal action and will also be liable to refund the entire merit amount paid.
