PG Fellowships for Professional Courses for SC/ST Student

The Programme has been commence keeping in view the social background of the Applicants from the deprived section of the society and to give them  to undertake PG-postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects like Technology & Engineering, Pharmacy Management etc. in Indian Universities/Institutions/ Colleges.

Aim of Scholarship Professional Courses for SC/ST Student

The aim of the programme is to give financial support to 1000 SC/ST applicants to pursue PG level studies in Professional subjects in the eligible institutions as given below.

Eligibility Criteria for Professional Courses for SC/ST Student

For the purpose of award of the ship Applicants who are pursuing professional programme in the following Colleges/Institutions/Universities:

Colleges/Universities/Institutions included under section 2(f) & 12(B) of UGC- University Grants Commission Act.

Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC- University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC-University Grants Commission,

Universities/Institutions/College funded by Central/State Government.

Institutes of National Importance.

Courses which require approval from Regulatory Council i.e. DCI-Dental Council of India, PCI-Pharmacy Council of India, NCTIS, MCI-Medical Council of India, ICAR-Indian Council of Agricultural Research, NCTE BCI-Bar council of India, AICTE-All India Council for Technical Education, RCI-Rehabilitation Council of India, INC, FRDDAI-FORENSIC REGULATORY & DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF INDIA are considered professional courses.

1: M.Com., MSW, M.A., M.Sc. and Mass Communication and Journalism degree are accepted as “Non-professional courses”:

2: Applicants studying PG Programmes in professional courses via correspondence or in long Range study type are not capable to receive financial assistance under this Programme.

Scholarship Procedure for Professional Courses for SC/ST Student

The applicants fulfilling the eligibility conditions are required to apply online on National Scholarship Portal after issue of advertisement to be published by the UGC once in a year through leading newspaper and Employment News and also on UGC website.

The host institution where the applicant is studying is required to verify the online application.

Nature of Assistance available under the Scheme

The tenure of award is for 2-3 years depending upon tenure of the PG Programme and not for extended period of study, if any.

Applicants selected for the award of PG fellowships (under ME/M Tech.) shall be given fellowship @ Rs.7800/-per month for the duration of the PG fellowship. For other courses, the amount of fellowship will be paid @Rs.4500/- per month.

The fellowship shall be payable to the awardee from the date of joining the Post Graduate I year course during the selection year.

The College/University/Institute should verify the application of the applicants with regard to the professional courses as giving in the guidelines.

Procedure for release of grant by the UGC

After selection, the awardees will be paid fellowship on DBT mode.

The list of awardees will be pushed to Public Financial Management System (PFMS) by the NIC.

PFMS will generate payment files of the awardees and fellowship would be paid for the complete duration of the PG course.
